Why do teachers need tech? To make your life easier, of course!
Google Jamboards are all the rage! Why? Cos they are fun, interactive, and best of all FREE! Google Jamboard is a digital whiteboard that allows for remote or in-person collaboration in a shared space. Students or colleagues can sketch out ideas, problem-solve or draw collaboratively and synchronously.
Now, on to my top 3 tips on using Jamboard in the classroom!
Tip #1 - Tell students WHAT to do...
Always start with a tutorial for students on how to use it. (I know, I know...they are digital natives but that doesn't mean they don't need a wee help!) You might want to start with a landing slide that allows them to practice first.
Tip #2 - Tell students what NOT to do...
Rules are important in online classes too! (Especially when students love to test the tech!) The second Google Jamboard page is where I review what students should and should NOT do. (Yes, I have had to reprimand them at times...)
Tip #3: My favorite activities!
#1 GAMES...yep, that's my favorite! You can adapt this to anything. (Yes, you see the math here but in case you haven't heard, I do avoid it.) This could be terms, questions, speech acts, and the list goes on!
#2: Descriptions
This one shows a character description but you can add ANY image and prompt students to contribute. Authors, science experiments, social studies
famous people, events, etc.
#3: Events
Simply draw the event timeline. Perhaps it's a triangle like you see here. It could be a horizontal timeline. Prompt students to place key information on each stage.
In case you need more help, you can find pre-made ones in my digital downloads.
Well, okay, there is more than just Jamboards in there! There are also tons of others like...
